Woodward 5466-355 NETCON REMOTE CHASSIS TRANSCEIVER
Functional Description
5466-355 is a Remote Chassis -speed differential line drivers that operate seamlessly at the VME transmission rate. This configuration ensures efficient and rapid data transfer between system components, minimizing signal degradation and electromagnetic interference. In tandem with Transceiver developed by Woodward. The Remote XCVR module is only available for CPU 68040 systems. The Remote XCVR module receives and sends control, data, and address information to and from the Main XCVR module via cable. This module must be installed in each Remote I/O Chassis that is wired to the Main Chassis. The Remote XCVR module connects to the chassis' VME bus. The system employs a parallel interface distinguished by its utilization of highthis interface, the system's cable connectivity is established through the integration of 100-pin metal shell Micro-D connectors, with two connectors allocated for each module. This connector design not only ensures a robust and dependable connection but also facilitates streamlined communication, enhancing the overall reliability and performance of the system.
Component Installation
- There are no switches or LEDs on the Remote XCVR module.
- Except for the last expansion chassis in the chain, all expansion chassis should use the Remote XCVR module without termination resistors. This module is required to be installed in Slot 1.
- The Remote XCVR module with termination resistors should be used in the final expansion chassis in the chain. This module is required to be installed in Slot 1.
Features
- The Remote Transceiver module's bus receiver/driver communicates with the VME bus, exchanging control, data, and address information. If this chassis is to be accessed, the chassis decoder activates the receiver/driver of this chassis' Remote Transceiver module to receive or send information.
- Parallel Interface: High-speed, differential line drivers operating at VME transmission rate
- Cable Interface: 100 pin metal shell Micro-D connector
- Check the cable connections if the Remote XCVR module is not working or is not working properly. If the module is still not working properly after checking the cable connections, replace the cables that connect to it. Replace the module if it is still not working properly after replacing the cables.
Transceiver Accessories Installation
- Main Transceiver Installation: The Main Transceiver module grants flexibility in terms of its installation slot within the Main Chassis. This adaptability allows you to choose a suitable slot for the Main Transceiver module based on your specific requirements and available resources.
- Expansion Chassis and Termination Resistors: For expansion chassis, excluding the last one in the chain, it is essential to use the module that lacks termination resistors. This module should be installed in Slot 1 of each expansion chassis. This configuration prevents signal reflection and ensures that the communication between components remains stable.
- Last Expansion Chassis and Termination Resistors: The final expansion chassis in the chain must be equipped with the module featuring termination resistors. This module should also be installed in Slot 1 of the last expansion chassis. The inclusion of termination resistors helps to prevent signal distortion and ensures that the signal reflections are properly managed.
- T-Module Mounting and Cabling: All expansion chassis, excluding the last one, should be accompanied by a T-Module, which should be positioned adjacent to the chassis. A set of three-foot (0.9 m) cables are to be employed to establish the connection between these expansion chassis and their respective T-Modules. This shorter cable length helps maintain signal quality over shorter distances.
- Cable Length for Different Connections: To ensure optimal signal transmission and reception, it is recommended that connections originating from the Main Chassis, connections between the last Expansion Chassis, and connections between the T-Modules be established using ten-foot (3 m) cables. This longer cable length accommodates the increased distance while maintaining signal integrity.
